Collection of horse equipment

The horse equipment typical of the Alka consists of three old-fashioned items, which were once used but now only serve for decorative purposes. These are the breastplate ("pusat"), the three-piece decoration of the horse, then the headstall ("oglavić"), which decorates the horse’s head, and finally the abaya, which covers the horse and saddle. Also, the equipment of the duke’s horse and the Edek horse features decorated stirrups ("uzengije") bearing an alka motif on the tread. The Edek horse’s equipment particularly distinguishes itself from the rest with its lavishness, age and additional parts. These additional parts are: an antique saddle decorated with pearls, a neck cover and breastplates covered with silver plates decorated with ornamental and figural motifs, with a silver chain with a pendant, and an abaya made from red baize reaching down to the horse’s ankles, decorated with rich gold embroidery, and with another small colourful abaya over the saddle.

addition to the equipment of the Edek horse, which is an example of lavish horse equipment from the 18th century, the equipment of the duke’s horse and the chieftain’s horse also distinguishes itself with its lavishness and value.

For the purpose of preserving the old horse equipment that has been passed down, it is also in the procedure of being completely replaced with newer replicas that are made according to the original designs that have been passed down, as well as from the original materials and in accordance with the original manufacturing methods.
