Chieftain is the commander of the Alka squires’ troop. He helps the Duke to select the squires.
He is responsible for rehearsals, for the appearance in the procession and for the squires’ behaviour.
His duty is to check whether each squire is properly dressed and equipped for the Alka tournament. During rehearsals and during Alka, chieftain may impose admonition to the squires. Chieftain has his deputy who helps him to perform the duties.
