Alka dukes through history

Duke is the head of the alkars’ troop, squires’ troop and alkars’ escort, but he does not participate in the Alka competitions.

Alka dukes through history
Duke issues the solemn command to start the Alka tournament; he guides all the preparations for the Alka, makes decisions on the election of alkars and squires who will participate in Alka, chooses and appoints among the alkars his adjutant, the flag bearer and the flag bearer’s companions, specifies the start time for the alkars and squires’ rehearsals, orders the start of each race; he is personally responsible for the alkars and squires’ work and behaviour and also for the success of Alka. Duke may impose measures to alkars and squires during rehearsals including: reprimand, exclusion from the rehearsals and exclusion from Alka.

Before the Alka competitions start, Duke holds the opening speech, and after the competitions he proclaims the winner. Duke also proclaims the winner of Bara and the winner of Čoja.
